\n“Behold,\nI come to do your\nwill, o God.” Beginning\nwith the narrative of man\u2019s fall,\nthe whole Bibel tells of the consequences of man\u2019s rejection of\nGod: suffering, death, social\nand political division, war, and\nit tells the Gospel, the good news of God\u2019s plan to transform that\nrejection into acceptance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This\n\u201cYes\u201d has a central place in today\u2019s feast, the Annunciation.\nNine months before Christmas, the Lord\u2019s birth, this feast recalls:\nGod himself becomes man, affirms the humanity that he created, and\nenables man to say a wholehearted, sincere \u201cyes\u201d to God, and to\nhimself, despite destructive, sinful and egoistic tendencies present\nin him after the fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mary lived from the\nvery beginning in a deep relationship to her child and Lord, a\nrelationship oriented towards her maternity,\nbut rooted in the first place in her faith. In faith she spoke\nher \u201cYes\u201d, gave her assent to the Lord\u2019s word to her, revealed\nthrough the angel Gabriel. Through this obedience of faith the wonder\ntook place, which we venerate in adoration: God became man, Immanuel,\nGod with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Eve\u2019s and\nAdam\u2019s disobedience stands at the beginning of humanity\u2019s\ndisobedience, so Mary expresses\nthis obedience of faith, as the new \u201cEve\u201d, for humanity and for\nthe whole Church, which believes in God, hopes in him, and loves him.\nWe are called with her to renew our assent to God and to his plan for\nus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That means for me\nand each of us: to affirm and to do what I can to achieve my goals\nand to improve\nmy part\nof the world in some\nway.\nBut it also means to accept the world as it is, in a state of\nimperfection and on a journey, which its uncertainty, its tensions.\nAnd it means above all, to trust that God accompanies, calls, and\nfills us with his grace, that all things lead to good for those who\nlove Him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
